Pop Dance | Chewy by Urban Steps
Chewy started her dance journey in the year 2010 in Singapore Polytechnic dance club, Strictly Dance Zone (SDZ) where she focused on hip hop, street jazz and K-pop. After graduating, she continued to partake in SIM dance club, Dreamwerkz (DWZ) from the year 2013 to 2016. Always seeking to challenge herself, she joined numerous competitions such as Pulse Street Dance K-pop Competition where she clinched first place, the second runner-up in Tampines K-pop Competition, Super 24 and even performed during the National Day Parade, back up dancer for a Hong Kong Singer, Gem’s concert as well as performing for Got To Move event and etc.
Chewy first started out teaching speech and drama to kids in 2014. Through which she developed a passion for nurturing young children to build up their confidence. In the year 2015, she expanded her curriculum to teach dance as well where she conducted workshops and choreographed for SIM Annual Dance Production in years 2016 & 2017, studio production and even sending her students for competitions. She has also taken up a number of school projects, such as Pal programmes, p6 graduation dance performance, childcare end of year concerts and etc. She is currently the resident instructor of White Sands Primary School, West Spring Primary School, PSB Academy, UWCSEA, and childcare centres.
Armed with an outgoing personality as well as an undying passion to teach children, Chewy takes pride in bringing out the best in every child. She believes that education plays a very important role in a child’s upbringing, helping to cultivate and shape an individual’s character and personality. Since young, she aspires to be an educator as she believes that inheritance of skill and knowledge is essential to developing dreams. It also gives her a sense of satisfaction to see her students’ accomplishments, achievements and positive progression along the way. Her gentle and kind demeanour makes her popular among children, coupled with a fun and engaging program, it is no wonder why kids are always so excited and looked forward to all her classes.
